The New Orleans Swing Dance Festival began in 2002 as an annual competition called the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown. In 2009, Showdown relocated down the Mississippi River to New Orleans where it operated annually 2015. The decision rebrand this event as the New Orleans Swing Dance Festival underscores a passion to share with a larger audience the idioms of Lindy Hop, Blues, and Carolina Shag dancing and the music that drives them.
