New Orleans Swing Dance Festival
Born in Minneapolis in 2002, the Ulitmate Lindy Hop Showdown was a groundbreaking event. It wasn’t the first or biggest Lindy Hop competition, but was among the most controversial—while all other competitions borrowed rules and terminology from ballroom or West Coast Swing dances, Showdown had no rules: may the best, most inspiring dance team win. In 2009, Showdown’s popularity outgrew Minneapolis, and it was relocated to New Orleans. Incorporating the local traditions and deep talent pool of live jazz musicians, Showdown was rebranded as the New Orleans Swing Dance Festival, emphasizing a broader focus on the dance and the music which inspires it, including classes and around-the-clock dance parties. The competition that started it all, Showdown, remains the event’s competitive centerpiece.
Kogi
Korean for ‘meat,’ Kogi is a Korean-Mexican fusion food truck in Los Angeles whose short rib tacos and pork belly quesadillas inspire hungry diners to wait in line for hours on end.
A winning submission for a 2009 contest sponsored by Kogi, this t-shirt design has since been in continual use by Kogi staff, as well as a best-seller on Kogi’s four trucks in Southern California.
